Have seen much interest – great! the beat the clock walk is happening again this year In Washington DC – weekend of May 17th. Contact Tamika & Friends for most recent info. Hope to see you all there!!
There seems to be a lot of controversy about the use of the HPV Vaccine to help prevent cervical cancer. I came across this article in the Manchester Evening News about a study recently completed in the United Kingdom. The more education we can receive about cervical cancer prevention & screenings, and the more we understand what study results show, allows us to have the right knowledge to tell someone that cervical cancer can be eradicated. Choose to know that you can take control. Please read the article through the link and pass it along!
In my excitement to tell people that cervical cancer can be prevented by ongoing screening by both liquid pap and the digene HPV test (if over 30) I lost a little insight about those suffering from cancers that are not preventable. It’s been a difficult week. A very dear cousin was diagnosed as having 7 tumors, including 2 in her brain. They have now done brain surgery and we are awaiting test results to see what happens next. At the same time, my sister-in-law’s (and she’s my best friend) father was hospitalized on Sunday. He has leukemia and the prognosis for him ever coming home is looking quite low at the moment (but hopefully he’ll swing!). A hard week? Yes, but one that strenghthens the argument that where we know we have a preventable cancer we should be certain to take control of ensuring that we all are cervical cancer avoiders. We can eradicate Cervical Cancer by taking the right steps. Choose to know that you can control your own health in this area, and remember those that don’t have that opportunity. The survivors I saw at the Beat the Clock Walk provide a constant source of hope when I think of the situations currently happening in my family.
You can help spread the word about eliminating cervical cancer. See the attached commercial about the HPV test and share it with your friends. If we all pass this information along, we have the opportunity to eliminate cervical cancer. It is 100% preventable, as we highlighted through participation at the Beat the Clock Walk.
Just got back from Washington DC and participating in the Tamika and Friends first annual ‘Beat the Clock’ walk. Over 400 people attended in order to promote awareness of cervical cancer prevention techniques, such as the Digene HPV test, more effective screening by using liquid paps and the HPV vaccine. The walk was also to remind us that cervical cancer is 100% preventable – it is the first chance we have to actually eradicate a cancer. Women – take control of your own health and make sure you partner with your doctor not only to prevent cervical cancer, but in all aspects of your well being. Not only should you ‘choose to know’ your own status but you should ‘tell someone’ to find out theirs.
Doesn’t mean I run away from people with cervical cancer, but want people to be aware that they can avoid becoming one with cervical cancer. It is 100% preventable!
